Special Coaching Scheme :
In order to achieve the above objectives, the two fold Coaching-cum-Guidance Centres perform their functions as follow:
Normal Coaching Cum Guidance Centres For SCs/STs:
These Coaching-cum-Guidance Centre for SC/STs, render Educational and Vocational Guidance to educated SC/ST job seekers and also organise Confidence Building Programme and Personality Development Programmes, Provide Vocational Guidance on Group and Individual basis, conduct mock interview sessions and disseminate information about various occupations and job opportunities available. The centres maintain close liaison with the Employment Exchange and Provide linkage with their Institutions as catalyst. The job seekers are also guided and motivated by the centres to take up Self-Employment.
Strengthened Coaching Cum Guidance Centres For SC/STs:
Out of 24 Coaching-cum-Guidance Centre 14 located at Kolkata, Imphal, Jabalpur, Delhi, Kanpur, Chennai, Nagpur, Surat, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Ranchi, Bangalore, Thiruvananthapuram and Puducherry have been strengthened to provide training in Typing and Shorthand to SC/ST educated job seekers who are registered with the Employment Exchanges. It has been observed that during the lapsed period (waiting on the Live Registration on the Employment Exchange) the job seekers lose their speed of Typing and Shorthand and a practice is needed to regain the lost speed. During Pre-Recruitment Training the candidates are also imparted refresher training/coaching to sharpen their knowledge in the concerned field and they are also helped in developing self-confidence for facing the interview. This scheme, therefore, has been launched to ensure that SC/ST registrants could regain their lost speed & developed confidence.
Special coaching scheme:
A Special Coaching Scheme to prepare SC/ST candidates for competitive examinations/selection tests for Group ‘C’ posts in Govt., Public and Private Sectors are also being operated by DGE&T in Delhi and Ghaziabad with the seating capacity of 200 candidates. So far 29 Phases of the scheme have been completed under Non-Plan. The 30th Phase of this scheme is in operation w.e.f. 1-7-2013. Each of the above phases is of 11 months duration in which the training in 4 fields like General Awareness, General English, Typing and Shorthand are imparted by the experts in the concerned field. In view of the fact that Staff Selection Commission will conduct the skill test on computer, it has been decided that the Special Coaching Scheme should include a module on Computer Training for the entire period during the Coaching of eleven months from the year 2010-11 onwards . During the training the trainees are given stipend at the rate of Rs.500/- per month besides free course books and limited stationery of Rs.500/- per month per trainee for the entire course. This scheme is being operated through private institutions like schools and colleges located in the area which are interested in running this scheme. A sum of Rs.500/- per month per trainees is given to each institution for imparting training as Professional Charges.
The scheme was extended to Coaching cum Guidance Centres for SC/ST Hyderabad, Bangalore, Ranchi, Kolkata, Kanpur and Surat under plan during 1992 which was further extended to six more centres namely at Imphal, Guwahati, Jabalpur, Hisar, Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram during 1999. The scheme has also been extended to Berhampur w.e.f. July 2006 which is now implemented at Coaching-cum-Guidance Centre for SC/STs Bhubneshwar (Orissa). The Scheme has further been extended at CGCs for SC/STs Mandi, Jaipur & Nagpur w.e.f. 16.08.2008. Thereafter the Scheme was extended to CGC for SC/STs Jammu, Jalandhar, Kohima during 2009-10 and at CGC Naharlagun w.e.f 20.07.2010. So far 19 phase of the Scheme have been completed under Plan. The 20th Phase is in operation w.e.f 01.07.2013. The monitoring of the scheme is undertaken by the Coaching-cum-Guidance Centre for SC/STs.
Computer Learning Courses Through Outsourcing:
Keeping in view the usage of computer in every sphere of knowledge, computer training has been introduced. It is being implemented at Delhi, Jabalpur, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Jaipur, Surat, Bangalore Nagpur, Hisar, Bhubaneshwar, Guwahati, Kanpur, Naharlagun, Thiruvananthapuram, Mandi, Ranchi, Jammu, Jalandhar, Kohima and Imphal. During 2009-10, the Scheme has been reoriented by enhancing the course to ‘O’ Level through DOEACC and making it one year course. The Scheme is in progress w.e.f. 01.07.2013 with a seating capacity of 2000 candidates at 21 CGCs for SC/STs @ around 100 candidates at each Centre. The one year ‘O’ level computer hardware maintenance training through DOEACC has also been introduced and is in progress w.e.f. 1.8.2012 with a seating capacity of 1300 candidates at 14 CGCs for SC/STs.
