  • Dear Prime Minister sir ,

I am stanzin sonam from pipcha zanskar. I am very upset with the way NDMA handled the Phugtal river crisis in Ladakh. I told that they spent more than 100 crore rupees of tax payers money and kept giving false statements in media saying the "disaster has been averted". However on 7th May the said landslide dam burst causing the biggest flash-flood in the memorable history of Zanskar. Although no human lives were lost thanks to the local administration and peoples’ own vigilance, more than 12 bridges, many houses, a school and agricultural fields were destroyed. Prime Minister , Zanskar has been pushed 10 years back in development with road communication completely cut off for many villages. And sir, for a rural farmer losing her fields means more than an urban executive losing his job, since the loss is for generations. Our traditions say that it takes roughly 100 years to make a farm fully productive in the trans-himalayan mountain deserts. Therefore sir, we the people of Ladakh appeal to you to kindly offer as much compensation as possible to the affected people and we also demand that an inquiry be conducted into how a national level apex body like NDMA got it all wrong and then went around making media releases calling this failure a “Daring Success”. Sir, this is like adding insult to injury of the Ladakhi people. What this also means is that they have learnt no lesson and next time if there is a similar crisis they will act in the same way. We request you to kindly look into the matter urgently and initiate an inquiry into the matter so that disasters are actually managed and the nation does not lose its tax payers hard earned money on totally avoidable calamities.

    Yours sincerely stanzin sonam
