Missing Child Bureau :
** In Tamil Nadu 35% of state population consist of children. Children are considered to be future assets of the country.
** Every day there are hundreds of children reported missing, many were never traced.

** Missing Child Bureau (MCB) is a governmental body under the Department of Social Defense providing services related to missing children with collaborative organisations like Police, Non-Governmental Organisation working for Children’s welfare, Children’s Home both Government and private .
** This service is a complement for the conventional methods in tracing the missing children and also this service is provided free of charge to the public with an easy access.
** Missing Child Bureau is to serve the public especially to the parents/relatives of the missing children to trace and rejoin into family.
** MCB services are initially made to be available in Chennai, Coimbatore and Madurai.
** Shortly, it will be expanded to other major municipalities very soon.

FUNCTIONS OF MISSING CHILD BUREAU :
[1] Information on children in Child care institutions who have no family contact either by visits or by communication will be collected, such as the Photo of the child, identification marks, place where the child was found last, languages known etc., will be stored in the database.
[2] Information about missing children from the house, school, community, neighborhood etc shall be provided to the Missing Child Bureau by the agencies like Police, Non Governmental Organisations, CHILDLINE, parents of missing children etc. in the prescribed Performa.
[3] Such information will be uploaded in the website of the Missing Child Bureau.
IF YOUR CHILD IS MISSING WHAT TO DO? :
** THERE IS NO WAITING PERIOD REQUIRED TO REPORT A MISSING CHILD
** TRY NOT TO PANIC IF YOUR CHILD IS MISSING. FIRST CHECK EVERYWHERE IN THE HOUSE, THEN CHECK WITH THE NEIGHBORS AND YOUR CHILD’S FRIENDS.
** IF YOU STILL CANNOT LOCATE THEM, INFORM IMMEDIATELY TO THE NEAREST POLICE STATION AND MISSING CHILDREN BUREAU WITH TWO COPIES OF RECENT PHOTOGRAPHS.
** Search also in water sumps, septic tanks, Over head water tanks etc., in your house and neighboring areas. Without any adult supervision, do not send your child alone or with their friends to nearby beaches, lakes, tanks, ponds or water tanks etc., to play or swim.
AN APPEAL :
** Any individual, police, school authorities, community and civil society can communicate and share information with the Missing Child Bureau under Department of Social Defense.
** Non Governmental Organisations, Police, Child Care Institutions run by Government agencies should furnish information periodically to Missing Child Bureau to update the data base.
** Corporate Sectors, media etc., can collaborate with the Department in Advocacy and awareness campaign on the concept of Missing Child Bureau.
