Registration of a new motor vehicle :

An application for registration of a motor vehicle is required to be made to the registering authority within a period of seven days from the date of taking delivery of such vehicle, excluding the period of journey.

Documents required to be submitted:-
** application in Form 20.
** sale certificate in Form 21.
** valid insurance certificate.
** copy of the proceedings of the State Transport Authority or Transport Commissioner or such other authorities as may be prescribed by the State Government for the purpose of approval of the design in the case of a trailer or a semi-trailer.
** original sale certificate from the concerned authorities in Form 21 in the case of ex-army vehicles.
** proof of address*.
** temporary registration, if any.
** road-worthiness certificate in Form 22 from the manufacturers/Form 22-A from the body builders.
** custom’s clearance certificate in the case of imported vehicles along with the licence and bond, if any.
** appropriate fee as specified in rule 81 of CMV Rules.
** proof of citizenship.
** proof of legal presence in India in addition to proof of residence in case of foreigners.
** Form No. 60 or PAN Card ( 2 attested copies).
** invoice showing the cost of vehicle (duplicate).
** NOC from Excise & Taxation Department in case the vehicle has been purchased from any other State.
** appropriate road tax as specified in Punjab Motor Vehicles Taxation Act/ Rules; alongwith penalty for late payment, if any.
** proof of being farmer in the case of Agricultural Tractors.
** additional fee for preferential or out of turn number as notified.
** pencil print of chassis number.
** two copies of Form No.14 of HMV Rules in addition to the documents above, in the case of transport vehicles.

In respect of vehicles temporarily registered, application shall be made before the temporary registration expires.

* Any one of the following documents can be produced in original or an attested copy thereof as proof of address:-
** Electoral Roll
** Life Insurance Policy
** Passport
** Pay slip issued by any office of the Central or State Government or a local body
** Telephone Bill
** Electricity Charges Bill
** Water Charges Bill
** Identity Card issued to the Ex-serviceman by the Zila Sanik Board
** Certificate of Registration in case of Firm/Company
** Certificate of Registration by the Sales Tax Department
** Income Tax Return
** Service Tax Return
** Certificate issued by the Hostel Wardens in case of students residing in Hostels
** Marriage certificate issued by the Registrar of Marriages
** Residence certificate issued by the District Administration
** Rent deed/Rent Agreement
** Report from the concerned SHO
** Employer certificate in case of Private Limited Companies with Identity Card
** House Allotment letter issued by the Govt. Department
** Ownership letter issued by the Estate Office
