Swavlamban Health Insurance Scheme
‘Swavlamban’ is a tailor made Group Health Insurance Scheme for providing affordable Health Insurance to persons with blindness, low vision, leprosy-cured, hearing impairment, loco-motor Disability, mental Retardation and mental Illness.

It has been launched by Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment with New India Assurance company Limited (Fully owned by Government of India). This is the first health insurance scheme catering to persons disabled with mental illness.
The scheme provides Rs 2,00,000 family floater policy for an affordable premium of Rs 355 per annum to persons with disabilities.

Efforts are being made to arrange periodic camps for enrolment in swavlamban health insurance scheme in Information centre for Persons with disabilities, NIMHANS (coordinated by Seva in Action (NGO); funded by Directorate for Empowerment of Differently abled and senior citizens, Government of Karnataka).
Officials from New India Assurance Company Limited have consented to come to Information centre for Persons with disabilities (NIMHANS) periodically and enroll Persons with disabilities interested in availing the scheme.
** The first such camp was conducted in 21st May 2016. 31 Persons with disabilities (most of them disabled with mental illness) were enrolled in the scheme.

** Additionally, these camps are likely to continue every 3rd saturday of each month.
