This scheme provides additional tools/equipment to socially backward class community so as to generate adequate income and self employment.

This scheme is introduced from 11.9.95 in place of the earlier self employment scheme, to uplift the economic condition of artisans/persons living below poverty line. The persons engaged in 79 different activities, such as hawkers, vegetable vendor, carpentry etc.
whose yearly income is upto Rs.47000/- for rural areas and upto Rs.68000/- in urban areas are provided financial assistance in the form of tools and equipments upto the limit of Rs.4000 to Rs.6000. This gives self employment opportunity to the BPL families.
Eligibility :
Age limit : 16 to 60 years
Income limit :
** Rural area beneficiary must have their name in the BPL list of Rural Development department. Rural area beneficiaries have not to produce income certificate.OR
** The beneficiary have family annual Income is up to Rs.47000 in Rural area & Rs.68000 in Urban area. They have to produced income certificate of Mamlatdar or Chief officer of Nagarpalika or competent authority of Municipal Corporation
Financial Asistance :
Toolkit limit of Rs.6000/- and it will be given to beneficiary as form of toolkit.
General Branch :
** Procurement of Vehicles, Furniture, Equipments & other materials required in Department.
** Maintenance of office building, vehicles & furniture.
** Maintain accounts of Diesel, Petrol & other daily necessary items used in the office.
** Preservation of library,store and record room.
** Payment of Telephone Bills, Electricity Bills and other Bills of the office.
Handloom Branch :
** Implementation of Package scheme for Handloom weavers cooperative societies.
** Provide primary & advance training in Handloom weaving.
** Implementation of intensive Handloom Development scheme through Handicraft Corporation.
** Implementation of integrated Handloom Development centrally sponsored Scheme.
** Implementation of Handloom Reservation Act.1985.
** Implementation of scheme for development of products & its marketing.
** Implementation of Mahatma Gandhi Bunker Bimayojna/Health Insurance Scheme.
** Implementation of State Govt.’s scheme to provide Handloom, Mill Gate Price scheme,publicity and propaganda.
Handicraft Branch :
** Provide employment to rural artisans by implementing State Govt.’s Gramodyog vikas Kendra scheme.
** Implementation of various schemes through Handicraft Development Corporation.
** Implementation of rebate on sale scheme for Handicraft cooperative societies.
** Implementation of Revolving fund scheme for Kutch women.
** To arrange All India Handicraft week every year.
** Coordination with all Boards/ Corporations.
** Establishment of urban Hatt/Highway Hatt.
** Implementation of leather training and Flying centers scheme for leather corporative.
** Implementation of state Government’s Cluster Development scheme.
About Us :
Cottage and Rural Industries department activities were initially functioning through Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Gujarat state, Gandhinagar.
But due to extent of activities, separate setup was required for execution and hence Industries, Mines and Power department(Government of Gujarat) has established new department at state level by issuing resolution of sanctioning the post of “Directorate of Cottage and Industrial Cooperatives.”
