Food And Licencing Guide :
The Prevention of Food Adulteration Act (37 of 1954), which came into effect from 1st of June 1955. This Act cancelled all Food Laws existing in all States, Union Territory’s. Food Wing :
The main function of this wing is to ensure quality food to the consumers according to standards fixed under Prevention of Food Adulteration Act. 1954 and Rules 1955 and to ensure hygienic standards for manufacturing and selling of any food article.
Food :
Means any article, used as food or drink for human consumption; any article, which ordinarily used in the preparation of human food, (e.g. any flavoring matter or condiments, (Except drugs and tap water). No person shall manufacture, sell, stock, distribute or sale any food article without a license, issued by the Licensing authority.
Food Licence :
** It is compulsory under Section 24 and Rule 50 of PFA Act. 1954; Rules 1955.
** Food license means the official permit for manufacture, sell, and stock, distribute or exhibit for sale any food item.
Procedure For Grant Of Licence
Prior to the issuance of a license for manufacture, sell, stock, distribute any food article or any food additive used in manufacture of food, the registration of premises of any commercial unit proposed to be utilized as manufacturing unit, store, shop etc. is obligatory. After its registration a form “Form ‘A’ under rule 5” is to be filled by the applicant (who should be adult) in a prescribed format available for the purpose of issuance of fresh license. It is compulsory that the applicant should mention the trade for which he intending to seek the license. Any objectionable, ambiguous or misleading trade name shall not be approved by the licensing authority. Subsequent to this a Food Inspector shall inspect the premises and satisfy itself that the conditions of license are fulfilled.
For Issue of new Licenses :
** Licenses issue validity period= 1 year
** License fee calculation (for trades established or to be established) = as per schedule
For Renewal of License :
** Licenses renewed are valid up to 31st march
** License fee calculation (for trades established or to be established)
** Late fees for non- renewal of license.
New License :
For getting a new Health Trade License from Municipal Corporation do the following;
** Submit an application form prescribed for the purpose against a form fee of Rs. 20/-. You can also download a form available on our web site and use it for this purpose.
