Passport Seva Background Verification for GEP
Step 1 Register through the Passport Seva Online Portal. (Click on “Register Now” link on the Home Page).

Step 2 Login to the Passport Seva Online Portal with the Login Id created in Step 1.
Step 3 Click “Apply for Background Verification for GEP” link.
Step 4 Fill in the required details in the form and submit.
Step 5 Click the “Pay and Schedule Appointment” link on the “View Saved/Submitted Applications” screen to schedule an appointment.
Online Payment has been made mandatory for booking appointments at all Passport Seva Kendras/Passport Offices.
Online Payment can be made using any one of the following modes:
** Credit/Debit Card (MasterCard and Visa)
** Internet Banking (State Bank of India (SBI) and Associate Banks and Other Banks)
Step 6 Click the “Print Application Receipt” link to print the application receipt containing Application Reference Number (ARN)/Appointment Number.
Step 7 Visit the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK)/Regional Passport Office (RPO) where appointment has been booked, along with original documents.
Note :
** Only emergency/medical cases and preapproved categories may visit Passport Seva Kendra without appointment.
** Service will be provided at the discretion of Passport Seva Kendra in-charge/Passport Officer.
** In case of minor applicants (below 4 years of age), carry the recent passport size photograph (4.5 X 3.5 cm) with white background.
** Resubmission of application form is required, in case the applicant does not visit the Passport Seva Kendra within 90 days from the online form submission.
** Information regarding status of verification carried out by Indian authorities and communicated to US CBP authorities will NOT be disclosed to the applicants or the general public under Section 8(1)(a), (f) & (j) of the RTI Act, 2005, as this information is being collected on behalf of the US Government, under a bilateral agreement.

** Select the ‘CPV Delhi’ option to apply for Diplomatic/Official passport at Consular, Passport and Visa (CPV) division, Delhi.
** Tibetan Refugees applying for Identity Certificate must register with ‘Delhi’ Passport Office.

Alias Name
What is alias name?
If a person is known by any other name in addition to his real/ official name then the other name falls under the category of alias name. For example if a person with name Sreejit Kumar is known as Sree in his neighborhood then Sree can be termed as his alias name.
Is alias name printed on the passport?
The practice of printing alias name on the passport has been discontinued. Only the applicant’s real/ official name will be printed on the passport.
What is the purpose of providing the Alias name in the passport application form?
Alias name is the additional information that is used by police authority during police verification of the applicant.
Is an applicant required to provide any additional documents to verify his alias name?
Applicant is not required to provide any additional documents to verify his alias name.
