NRC Assam Verification Process
Verification would be consisting of two parts

Office Verification
Validation of documents submitted as proof of the claim for inclusion in NRC, which is to be done during Application Form receipt phase as a part of office verification.
Field Verification
Verification to be carried out in the field to establish identity of the applicants and their linkage to the quoted reference in the Legacy Data.
All the officials involved would be carrying out their statutory functions of verification in a quasi judicial manner as per the provisions of The Citizenship Act, 1955, and the Citizenship (Registration of Citizens and Issue of National Identity Cards) Rules, 2003.
The verification process would be carried out to identify applicants and authenticate the eligibility claims for inclusion in NRC.
Operating Procedure
Registrar General of Citizens Registration (RGCR) :
The overall superintendence, direction and control of the updation of National Register of Citizens are vested with the Registrar General of India, who is designated as the Registrar General of Citizens Registration (RGCR) under sub-rule (1) of Rule 15 of Citizenship Rules, 2003.
Director of Citizen Registration (DCR) :
The Director of Census Operation of the state shall act as the representative of RGI at state level in the capacity of the Director of Citizen Registration under sub rule (2) (b) of Rule 15 of Citizenship Rules, 2003.
The preparation of the updated NRC for the state shall be under the superintendence, direction and control of the Director of Census Operation as the Director of Citizens Registration.
Rule 5 of the Citizenship Rules, 2003 makes its legally binding on every government machinery and official at all levels to render essential services for updating NRC by commanding that “Every official of the Central government, State Government, local bodies or their undertakings shall assist the Registrar General of Citizens Registration or any person authorized by him in this behalf, in preparation of the database relating to each family and every person, and in implementing the provisions of these rules”.

The Verification Process started immediately after the closure of the Application Receipt Phase on 31st August, 2015.
2. What is the aim of the Verification Process?
The sole purpose of the Verification Process is to ensure that no ineligible person gets entry and that no genuine person gets left out.
4. How will the Verification Process be conducted?
The Verification Process shall be conducted in two parts. They are the following
(i) Office Verification
(ii) Field Verification
In order to ensure maintenance of timelines stipulated by the Apex Court, Field Verification and Office Verification would be carried out simultaneously.
5.What is the focus of Office Verification?
Scrutiny of documents submitted along-with the Application Forms to establish authenticity of the document with focus on the particulars given therein as given below. This process would be called Office Verification.
The particulars to be verified in a document would be :
(i) In case of List A documents : the names of the persons and date.
(ii) In case of List B documents : the names of the persons to establish relationship claimed.
