There is a continuous change in the needs and expectations of the society in the area of health care.

The patients who were playing a passive role in health care now became proactive. Norms, standards and guidelines play an important role in ensuring service to the society. It is particularly true in the case of health care. Realizing the need for ensuring appropriate quality services and other facilities at the hospital pharmacies and the community pharmacies Good Pharmacy Practices are adopted and implemented throughout the world in recent past.
Definitions :
** Pharmacist (to be defined)
** Dispensing (to be defined)

** Devices, Surgicals (to be defined)
Facilities :
** There should be adequate space for carrying out the dispensing activities.
** Premises of the Pharmacy should be Clean,Tidy,Hygienic
** Adequate arrangement for ensuring Safety, Security, and contamination free environment
** The pharmacy should have a telephone service and constant supply ofelectricity, especially for the refrigerator(s). There should be a provision for drinking water to facilitate medicine administration to the patients and for use of the personnel.
** The pharmacy should preferably be equipped with computers and appropriate
software that can :
** Manage inventory
** Manage invoicing
** Generate timely warnings for expiry medicines
** Archive patient medication records
** The pharmacy should be equipped with refrigerated storage facilities (validated from time to time) for medicines requiring storage at cold temperatures.
** Sufficient and proper arrangement for scientific racking and storage.
** A separate area described as “Counseling Area” for patient counseling, storage of reference resources (e.g. books, internet access) is a fundamental requirement.
Prescription Handling. :
** The prescription shall be received by the pharmacist in a professional and dignified manner.
** Patients must be made to feel attended and comfortable by friendly gestures and ambienceas soon as they come into the pharmacy.
** Communication should be opened in such a way that it encourages the client to convey his / her needs by producing a prescription or by asking for other medicines or advice
** Upon receiving the prescription, the Pharmacist or person instructed by the
Pharmacist should confirm :
** Identity of the client.
** Whether the prescription is presented by the client himself/herself
About Us :
The Kerala State Pharmacy Council is a statutory body functioning under the Kerala State health Department. It is constituted under Section 19 of the Pharmacy Act, 1948 to regulate the profession and practice of Pharmacy in the State.
The office of the Kerala State Pharmacy Council is functioning in MNVG Adiyodi Memorial Pharmacy Bhavan, P.H. Lab Compound, Red Cross Road, Thiruvananthapuram, very near to the State Drugs Control office.
