Scheme of Consumer Clubs :

It is the non formal pro active system of imparting consumer education to children studying in educational institutions by involving those students in various consumer welfare and consumer protection activities through Consumer Clubs.

Practical knowledge of consumer protection and consumer welfare will be imparted to the members of the consumer clubs through audio visual ads, posters, lectures, etc. besides demonstration and street plays can also be arranged. Debates, Declamation/ essay writing/ letter writing contests and quiz programmes will help them learn on their own.

Objectives :
Objectives of the scheme are to educate children about rights of the consumers as provided in Consumer Protection Act, 1986, to mobilise youngsters by instilling in them the spirit of protection of consumer rights; to impart knowledge about the role of consumers in protection of their rights and to strengthen the consumer movement in India.

Composition :
A Consumer club shall be set up in middle school and its higher level schools and colleges affiliated to a Government recognised board
It shall consist not less than 50 members with no upper limit
Each consumer club shall be in the charge of an active teach in concerned school as co-ordinator and a co-ordinator from the Consumer Association

Functions :
** To take part in all activities of the consumer club
** To disseminate information gained through consumer clubs among their fellow students as well as among the people living in their respective locality to organise and actively participate in consumer protection programmes organised in schools as well as in the locality to observe National Consumer Day and World Consumer Rights day

Financial Support :
** Each consumer club is being provided with financial support for a sum of Rs.10,000 per annum
** A maximum of 20% out of the said amount is being sanctioned to co-ordinating agency (Voluntary Consumer Association)
** The balance amount shall be spent by Consumer Club to meet out its expenditure
