Pravasi Identity Card For Non Resident Keralite

PRAVASI IDENTITY CARD
** The Non Resident Keralite Identity Card was introduced in August 2008. The NRKs who are either residing or working abroad for atleast 6 months and have completed 18 years of age are eligible for applying the card.

The validity of the card is 3 years. The NRKs may submit their application along with the self attested copies of the relevant pages of passport and visa. The registration fee is Rs. 300/- per person.
** The New India Insurance Company will provide an insurance coverage upto Rs.2 lakh to the card holders. The coverage is given for accidental death, permanent or total and partial disability of the card holder. A unique master policy number is depicted in each card.
** NRK Identity Card Cells have been constituted in Thiruvananthapuran, Kochi and Kozhikode districts for receiving the applications of the NRKs. The districts are classified into three zones and the districts pertaining to each zone as detailed below can submit their applications at the three regional centers of NORKA-ROOTS.

The applicants pertaining to the Northern Zone have to submit their application forms at the Kozhikode, Regional Office of NORKA-ROOTS, Middle zone at the Ernakulam office and the applicants pertaining to the Southern Zone have to submit their application at the Thiruvananthapuram office of NORKA-ROOTS.

Id Card Renewal :
NRKs whose pravasi cards have been expired and still working/residing abroad can renew their cards by submitting the filled up renewal form, self attested copies of relevant pages of passport & visa and the renewal fee Rs.300 taken as DD in favour of Chief Executive Officer, Norka-Roots, payable at respective Regional Offices(Thiruvananthapuram/ Ernakulam/ Kozhikkode).The individual application detais will be available from the concerned ID Cells at the Norka-Roots Regional Offices [Calicut, Ernakulam and Trivandrum].
The printed NRK ID cards can be collected from the concerned ID card cells or from the respective District Norka Cell at the Collectorates. When the ID cards are distributed through the District NORKA Cells, intimation will be sent to the applicants through post or by press release. The average time taken at present for issue of NRK ID cards are 45 to 60days. For more details contact the concerned ID Cells.

NORKA :
According to the Kerala Migration Survey, there are 22 lakh migrant workers from Kerala, 90% are in Gulf Cooperation Council countries. On 6th December 1996, Government of Kerala launched the Department of Non Resident Keralite’s Affairs (NORKA) to redress the grievances of non resident Keralites both in India and abroad and to have a sustainable partnership with them. NORKA is the first Department of its kind in India.

  • I am living in Kerela now in 1 month time I am going abroad for work. Can I apply for Pravasi Identity Card ?
