What is a Smart City ?:
Smart Cities focus on their most pressing needs or on the greatest Opportunities to improve quality of life for residents. Smart City leaders avoid the temptation to tackle only one small problem because the solution is eye-catching or easy to implement.

Smart Cities improve Lives – Currently. 31% of India’s population lives in cities; these cities also generate 63% of the nation’s economic activity. These numbers are rapidly increasing. with almost half of lndia’s population projected to live in its cities by 2030. The need for thoughtful, innovative solutions that address quality of life issues within Indian cities more timely than ever.

Leveraging All Available Assets – Being “smart” means leveraging all available assets. The creativity of citizens. The proficiency of experts. The know-how of business. Emerging technologies. it’s about taking advantage of new tools and proven strategies across india and around the globe to improve the quality of life for residents.

What will a Smart City Proposal include ?:
A Bold Vision: Each city must convey its.own unique vision that reflects local content, its resources, and the priorities and aspirations of its citizens.

A Pan-City Initiative: Cities should draw inspiration from smart solutions that incorporate the use of technology, information and data to improve services or results for citizens. The pan-city initiative must touch the lives of many,or potentially all,of its citizens.

An Area-Based Development Plan: This plan will transform an existing place within each city, creating an exemplar for other areas in the city, or across the country,to follow. Depending on local circumstances. Cities may choose one of three approaches: retrofitting (which spruces up an existing area). redevelopment (which completely demolishes and transforms an area from scratch), or Greenfield development(a brand new development in a previously undeveloped area)

What do we mean by Smart Solutions ?:
During the India Smart Cities Challenge, solutions will come in many shapes and sizes, strengthening the city’s governance or its physical, social, or economic infrastructure to improve quality o life. The Choice of solution is only smart if it is right-sized to the challenge it aims to address, bigger isn’t necessarily better. It is about finding a practical solution that will really help citizens.
