Apply For Driving Licence :

Necessity of driving licence:
No person shall drive a motor vehicle or a transport vehicle in any public place unless he holds an affective driving licence issued to him by Licensing Authority.

Age limit in connection with driving of motor vehicles:
No person under the age of eighteen years shall drive a motor vehicle in any public place.

Provided that a motor cycle with engine capacity not exceeding 50 cc can be driven in a public place by a person after attaining the age of sixteen years.

No person under the age of 20 yrs. Shall drive a transport vehicle in any public place.

Medical Certificate:
An applicant for the grant of a non transport vehicle driving licence under the age of 50 years do not require a medical certificate. However, those applicants who are over 50 yrs. of age must produce a medical certificate in Form – 1A.

All applicants for the grant of driving licence to drive transport vehicle are required to produce a medical certificate

Procedure for obtaining learner’s licence:
An application for the grant or renewal of a learner’s licence shall be made in Form 2 alongwith the following documents:-
** Medical Certificate in Form No. 1-A or declaration in Form 1, as the case may be
** Three copies of the applicant’s, recent Passport size Photograph
** Fee of Rs. 30/- for each class of vehicle
** In the case of application for medium goods vehicle, a medium passenger motor vehicle, a heavy goods vehicle, or a heavy passenger vehicle, the driving licence for Light Motor Vehicle held by the applicant.
** Every applicant for a learner’s licence is required to present himself before the licensing authority for preliminary test

Validity of learner’s licence:
Learner’s licence issued by licensing authority shall be valid for 6 months.

Procedure for obtaining driving licence:

An application for a driving licence shall be made in Form 4 along with following documents:
** an effective learner’s licence to drive the vehicle of the type to which the application relates.
** Fee of Rs. 40.00 in case the Driving Licence is in Form 6 and Rs. 200.00 (including the cost of computerized chip) in case of Driving Licence is to be issued in Form No. 7 .
** Three copies of the applicant’s recent [passport size photograph]
** Medical Certificate in Form 1A – Where required
** A driving certificate in Form 5 issued by the school or establishment from where the applicant received instruction, if any.

Driving Test:
Every applicant shall have to pass driving test/ physical competence test to be conducted by licensing authority on a vehicle of the type he has applied for subject to payment of Rs. 50.00 as competency fee.

Validity of driving licence:
Licence to drive a transport vehicle be effective for a period of three years from the date of its issue.

An authorization of licence to drive a transport vehicle carrying goods of dangerous or Hazardous nature be effective for one year and renewal thereof subject to the condition that the driver must undergoes one day refresher course of the prescribed syllabus.

A licence to drive a non transport vehicle shall be effective for a period of 20 yrs. from the date of issue or renewal or the holder attains the age of 50 yrs., whichever is earlier, after that the licence is renewable for 5 yrs.

Addition to driving licence:
An application for addition of another class of vehicle to the driving licence shall be made in form 8 along with the following documents:-
** an effective learner’s licence and driving licence held by the applicant;
** in the case of an application of addition of a transport vehicle, the driving certificate in Form 5;
** A fee of Rs. 30.00 in case of a Driving Licence in form 6 and Rs. 200.00 in case Driving Licence is to be issued in Form

Renewal of driving licence:
An application for addition of another class of vehicle to the driving licence shall be made in form 8 along with the following documents:-
** fee in case Driving Licence in form 6 shall be Rs. 30.00 and form 7 Rs. 200.00
** three copies of the applicant’s recent [passport size photograph]
** the driving licence
** the medical certificate in form 1-A.

Duplicate Licence:
The driving licence holder shall apply for issue of duplicate driving licence in form LLD, alongwith the following document:
** Fee Rs. 25.00
** FIR from police station regarding the loss of Driving Licence and an affidavit to this effect.
** In case of defaced, mutilated or soiled Driving Licence original copy of the same.

International Driving Licence:
An application for international driving licence shall be made to the licensing authority having jurisdiction over the area in which the holder of driving licence ordinarily resides or carries on business alongwith the following documents:-
** Fee Rs. 500.00
** Attested photocopy of Passport.
** Indian Driving Licence.
** Copy of Valid Visa.
** 3 recent Passport size photographs.

Validity of international driving licence:
International driving licence shall be effective for a period of one year.
