Anganwadi Centres Building Scheme :
The scheme of construction of buildings of Anganwadi Centres was started during the year 2002-03 to provide clean and peaceful environment to the children and other related schemes at village level and to create asets for them.

AWCs is not merely a AWC but a focal point for village women where they can feel themselves free and can discuss freely.
Cost :
The total unit cost of construction of one Anganwadi Centre Building is Rs. 2.33 lacs including Rs. 25000 cash contribution by the local community and the local community will have to provide 200 square yards of land free of cost for the construction of Anganwadi Centre Bulidings as per estimate approved by State Government.
Criteria :
The Anganwadi Building will be constructed only in those village where panchayats will provide atleast 200 square yards of land free cost and community will contribute Rs. 25000.
Model Anganwadi Centres :
** Though the scheme of construction of Anganwadi Centre was already going on within the sources of the State Government since 2002-03, but the scheme of construction of Anganwadi Building was also sponsored by GOI with a share of Rs. 93750 AWC during 2003-04.
During 2003-04 GOI released Rs. 343.67 lacs for construction of 408 Model Anganwadi Centres and Rs 26.25 lacs was released during 2005-06 for the construction of 35 Model Anganwadi Centres.After 2005-06 Model Anganwadi Centres construction scheme was closed at GOI level and no funds have been received since then.
** Now, since 2005-06 the State Government is implementing this scheme from its own resources at the unit cost of Rs. 2.33 lacs,out of which Rs. 25000 is provided by the concerned Gram Panchayat along with 200 square yards land free of cost and remaining cost of Rs. 2.08 is being borne by State Government as per the provision laid down in the scheme.
During the year 2007-08 the norms of cost of construction of Anganwadi Buildings have been enhanced from Rs. 2.33 lacs to Rs 3.44 lacs per unit along with some modifications in plan-layout i.e. two fans, water tank and boundary wall etc.
The State Government has a plan to construct Anganwadi Buildings without contribution of Panchayats/Community in areas/village with 50% or more scheduled caste population so that poor and deprived sections are reached and brought under the umbrella of ICDS services in a clean environment.
During the current year, Rs 928.80 lac are proposed to be released for the construction of Anganwadi Buildings in the State.During 2008-09 State Government has a plan to construct 290 Anganwadi Buildings for which Rs 2 crore has been released by PWD (B&R) Haryana.

The Directorate of Women and Child Development was constituted vide notification No. 79-SW I/92 dated 10th February,1992. The Directorate of Women and Child Development is functioning w.e.f. 1-4-92 after the bifurcation of social welfare department.
The schemes of Women wing of Development Department, Haryana alongwith its staff at Headquarter/District/ Block level was merged in the Directorate of Women and Child Development.
