Gramodyog Vikas Kendra :

Earlier this scheme was known as Gramodyog Sankul Yojana. Another scheme, the Common Work shed Scheme also existed. Both the schemes had some lacunae that created difficulties in their implementation.

After careful consideration, both the schemes have been amalgamated from February 2000. The scheme is now called Gramodhyog Vikas Kendra. The scheme aims to provide infrastructure facilities at village level to the artisans.

Eligibility :
** NGO’s, a Cooperative Societies, a trusts which are having 2 to 3 years working experience
** Having own land of 1000 to 1200 Sq. Feet which must be N.A.

** Able to manage suitable site , Building, Raw materials, Technical/Administrative Staff Marketing
** Efficient to provide employment to at least 25 artisans under activities of village industries sector

Financial Assistance : Unit Cost Rs.13.00 lakh

General Branch :
** Procurement of Vehicles, Furniture, Equipments & other materials required in Department.
** Maintenance of office building, vehicles & furniture.

** Maintain accounts of Diesel, Petrol & other daily necessary items used in the office.
** Preservation of library,store and record room.
** Payment of Telephone Bills, Electricity Bills and other Bills of the office.

Handloom Branch :
** Implementation of Package scheme for Handloom weavers cooperative societies.
** Provide primary & advance training in Handloom weaving.
** Implementation of intensive Handloom Development scheme through Handicraft Corporation.

** Implementation of integrated Handloom Development centrally sponsored Scheme.
** Implementation of Handloom Reservation Act.1985.
** Implementation of scheme for development of products & its marketing.

** Implementation of Mahatma Gandhi Bunker Bimayojna/Health Insurance Scheme.
** Implementation of State Govt.’s scheme to provide Handloom, Mill Gate Price scheme,publicity and propaganda.

Handicraft Branch :
** Provide employment to rural artisans by implementing State Govt.’s Gramodyog vikas Kendra scheme.
** Implementation of various schemes through Handicraft Development Corporation.

** Implementation of rebate on sale scheme for Handicraft cooperative societies.
** Implementation of Revolving fund scheme for Kutch women.
** To arrange All India Handicraft week every year.

** Coordination with all Boards/ Corporations.
** Establishment of urban Hatt/Highway Hatt.
** Implementation of leather training and Flying centers scheme for leather corporative.
** Implementation of state Government’s Cluster Development scheme.

About Us :
Cottage and Rural Industries department activities were initially functioning through Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Gujarat state, Gandhinagar.

But due to extent of activities, separate setup was required for execution and hence Industries, Mines and Power department(Government of Gujarat) has established new department at state level by issuing resolution of sanctioning the post of “Directorate of Cottage and Industrial Cooperatives.”

Afterwards the post head of the department was sanctioned as “Commissionerate of Cottage and Rural Industries” by issuing resolution from Industries and Mines department.
