Jan Shree Bima Yojna :

** This scheme was launched in the year 2003-2004 to give life security to the persons living below poverty line to give them life security.

** Under this scheme, persons living in the BPL families in the age group of 18-60 years are covered.

** Under this scheme, an amount of Rs. 200/- is paid premium per beneficiary.
** 50% premium will paid by the State Govt. and 50% by the Central Govt.

** Under this scheme, in the case of natural death of the insured member, an amount of Rs. 20,000/- , death due to accident Rs. 50,000/- and in the case of partial disability Rs. 25,000/- and in case of complete disability due to accident Rs. 50,000/- will be provided.

** The children belonging to these insured members and studying in the class 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th will be given scholarship @ Rs. 300/- per quarter.
** An amount of Rs. 50.00 lac is earmarked for the financial year, 2006-07 under this scheme.

Social Security Schemes :
** Kanya Jagrit Joti Scheme was launched in 1996-97 in Punjab State.
** The girl child born on or after 26.01.96 in the families living below poverty line or annual income below Rs. 20,000/- are covered under this scheme.

** The family of the beneficiary will adopt two child family norm and only two girl children of the family will be covered under the scheme.
** The main objective of the scheme is to uplift the social status of girls and to reduce school drop out. The beneficiaries will have to study upto matric.

** An amount of Rs.5000/- is deposited with the L.I.C. in the name of beneficiary.

** When the girl child attains the age of six years, she will get Rs.1200/- per annum as scholarship upto 12 years and this amount will be increased to Rs.2400/- from 12 years to 18 years for her studies.

** 26200 beneficiaries have been covered up to 31-3-2006
** During the year 2005-06 there was a budget provision of Rs. 200.00 lac, expenditure is Rs. 200.00 lac and 4000 beneficiaries have been covered under the scheme.

** A budget provision of Rs. 200.00 lac is earmarked for the year 2006-07.

State Protective Home Jalandhar :
This Home was set up in the year 1951 for neglected and destitute old and Infirms at district headquarters of Hoshiarpur by this department, wherein older persons of both sexes i.e women above the age of 60 years and men above the age of 65 years are provided free lodging, boarding and medical assistance etc.

A dispensary has been set -up in the home itself under the charge of full time doctor. Separate hostels have been provided for men and women. During the year 2006-07 the total budget of Rs.23,42 000/- and Expenditure Rs. 9,21,503/-The No of beneficiaries was 28 as on 31-8-06 .
