Defence Accounts Department :
The Defence Accounts Department (DAD) which has lived through more than two and half centuries is one of the oldest departments under the Government of India.
The Defence Accounts Department (DAD) which is headed by Controller General of Defence Accounts(CGDA) is at present responsible for the Financial Advice, Payments, Accounting and Internal Audit of the Expenditure and Receipts of the Defence Services and other Defence-related Organizations such as the Indian Coast Guard, the Border Roads Organisation and the Canteen Stores Department.
About Us :
Production of military hardware in India commenced with the establishment of Gun Carriage Agency factory (presently known as Gun and Shell factory, Cossipore) in the outskirts of Kolkata by the East India Company in the year 1801.
Subsequently more such production entities (i.e. Ordnance and Ordnance equipment factories) were set up, totaling 39 in number, brought under the umbrella of Directorate General of Ordnance Factories and Ordnance Factory Board of Ministry of Defence, Government of India.
The Military Accounts Department, as it was then called had been looking after the payment and accounting functions of East India Company, to start with, and the British Indian Army later on. It also assumed the role of Cost Accountant within the ambit of the Ordnance Factories.

1. What does Right to Information mean?
It includes the right to :
(i) Inspect works, documents, records.
(ii) Take notes, extracts of certified copies of documents or records.
(iii) Take certified samples of material.
(iv) Obtain information in form of printouts, diskettes, floppies, tapes, videocassettes or in any other electronic mode or thorough printouts.
2. What does information mean?
Information means any material in any form including records, documents memo, e-mails, opinions, advices, press releases, circulars, orders, logbooks, contracts, reports, papers, samples, models, data material held in any electronic form and information relating to any private body which can be accessed by a public authority under any other law for the time being in force.
3. What is Application Procedure for requesting information?
The application can be made to the Central Public Information Officer in writing in plain paper or through electronic means in Hindi or English specifying the particulars of the information sought for along with a fee of rupees ten by way of cash against proper receipt or demand draft or bankers cheque or IPO payable to either PCA(Fys) or Accounts Officer, PCA(Fys) at Kolkata.
An applicant, making request for information is not required to give any reason for requesting the information or other personal details except those may be necessary for contacting him.
