The app provides additional data communicating mechanism for the MDM in-charge/teacher who has to send the daily/monthly data using SMS.
The app, once installed on android device, does not need Internet to send MDM figures as user has option to send the figure through SMS from the app. This simplifies the job of MDM in-charge, who even does not have to remember the SMS formats.
The higher authorities at Block, District and State level have a very simple and effective mechanism in shape of this app on their mobile devices for effective and efficient monitoring of daily as well as monthly data transmission by all the MDM in-charge falling under their jurisdiction. The authorities can send SMS alerts to all defaulters using single button available in the app.
FCI Payment :
Under the National Programme of Mid Day Meal in Schools, free foodgrains are supplied to Districts @100gms and @150grms per child per day for children studying in Primary (class I to V) and Upper Primary (class VI to VIII) stage respectively.
Local depots of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) supply the food grains and centralized payment of cost of food grains is made to the FCI by the Govt. of India without obtaining confirmation of lifting from the Statres/UTs as the confirmation process was taking a lot of time and causing undue hardship to the FCI. Centralized payment without confirmation is prone to delay and risk.
Note :
** 7.81 lakh Kitchen-cum-Stores have been constructed to ensure safety of foodgrains and ensure hygienic meals to the children
** 25.25 lakh cook-cum-helpers mainly from SC/ST/OBC communities have been engaged to provide MDM to school children during 2016-17
** 9.78 crore children benefit from hot cooked nutritious food in 11.43 lakh schools during 2016-17 (upto 3rd Qtr)
Promoting Green Practices Within and Beyond School :
The National Mid Day Meal (MDM) programme, implemented across all the government and government-aided schools in India aimed to provide nutritional Meal to each and every child (6-14 years) in school to achieve the goal of Universalisation of Elementary Education also provides tremendous opportunities to accomplish the objectives of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).
However, it continues to face the neglect of the teaching fraternity as teachers at large consider it as an activity in isolation, which does not help in teaching learning but consumes the precious time, which otherwise could have been utilised meaningfully for various curricular activities.
