The Transport department functions under the provisions of section 213 of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. The Transport Department is primarily established for enforcement of the provisions of Motor Vehicles Act,1988, Madhya Pradesh Motor Vehicles Taxation Act,1924 (Amended 1993) and the rules framed under these two Acts.
An efficient and vibrant Road Transport System in a State is the most essential ingredient for the long-term socio-economic and cultural prosperities.
It has direct bearing on the quality of the live of the people. With enormous implications embodied, the efficacies of road transport system is inextricably linked with the types and extent of regulatory, management and administrative setup in the State
e Governance in Madhya Pradesh :
Madhya Pradesh Transport Department is a pioneer in using information Technology for providing citizen centric services. Computerization of the department started 10 years ago with the issuance of Smart Card Based Driving License and Registration Certificate.
Gradually all the processes of the Transport Department are being computerized and the data are made available through the internet or SMS for access by citizens. M.P. is the first state to provide value added services like “Online Tax Payment” and “Online Dealer Point Enrollment System”.
