Monitoring The Complaints
The Food Safety Officer in Chennai is constantly monitoring the complaints coming to the cell phone number. The complaint to that number will be forwarded to the concerned District Food Safety Designated Officer of the district to which it belongs.
He will forward the complaint to the food safety officer at the regional or municipal level, investigate what went wrong with the store that served the substandard food and take appropriate action under the law against the store concerned.

What is FSSAI?
The FSSAI is a governmental body tasked with ensuring food safety in India. As per in ‘FSS (Licensing & Registration) Regulations, 2011, Licenses and Registrations are granted to FBOs in a 3 tier system, viz;
** Registration
** State license
** Central License.
What is the fee for modification of license?
Any change that alters the information contained in the license certificate, shall apply for modification of license with the fee equivalent to one year license fee. No fee is required for modification of non Form C details.
Who can obtain Registration certificate?
Registration certificate should be obtained for all companies selling less than 12 lakhs per annum; The fee is only Rs 100 per year, Documents required for this are a passport size photograph, proof of identity and proof of location.
Who can apply for Central License?
Businesses having annual turnover above 20 crore can apply for FSSAI central license. Eligible food Business Operators like Importers, Manufacturers, operators in central government, Railways, airports, seaports, etc. need to take a Central FSSAI license
About Food Safety Department Tamilnadu:
The Government of India have enacted the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 by repealing the PFA Act, 1954 and other seven related Food Laws to regulate, manufacturers, storage, distribution, sale and import of food products. This Act is being implemented in the entire country with effect from 05.08.2011. Tamil Nadu Food Safety and Drug Administration Department was formed with effect from 22.12.2011 to implement the Act.
The Departments, headed by the Commissioner of Food Safety and assisted by the Director and Additional Commissioner of Food Safety, other supportive Staff at State Level, 32 Designated Officers at the District level and 394 Food Safety Officers at the field level are available to implement the Act.
Tamil Nadu Food Safety Appellate Tribunal was formed and started functioning from February, 2019. Presiding Officer, Registrar and Assistant Public Prosecutor Grade-I are posted to this Tribunal. Online Licensing / Registration facility is implemented in all the districts. Issuing the License / Registration Certificate to the Food Business Operators as per the Food Safety and Standard Act, 2006 is the basic responsibility of this department.
