How to Renew Driving License in Tamil Nadu?

Application for renewal of driving licence can be made within 30 days from the date of expiry of validity. DL holders of heavy transport vehicles should undergo one day refresher course as per the Government Notification at the approved driving schools.

Applicant who wants to renewal of his / her license, has to apply in online. Necessary fees can be paid in online. Documents also can be uploaded in online. The driving licence will be renewed for the period of five years in respect of Non-Transport Vehicle and three years for Transport vehicles.If driving License expired more than 5 years ago, a fresh driving test will be conducted for renewal of the License.

** Medical Certificate in Form1-A ( in case of the applicant who obtained Non transport vehicle DL has completed the age of 40 years old or holder having valid DL for transport vehicle ).
** Driving License.

** Fee for Renewal of Transport vehicle DL is Rs.450/-.
** Fee for Renewal of Non-Transport vehicle DL is Rs.500/-.

When can I go for Driver License test ?
The applicant who has held a valid Learners’ License,for a period of at least 30 days, shall be competent to appear for the test of competence. on any government working day.

Did the applicant should appear for the Driver License test and verification of original documents ?
Yes. The applicant should appear for the driving test and Drive the vehicle in front of the competence testing authority. If he passed, he will be allowed to capture Bio-matric including photograph. If he fail, he may allow to appear for re-test after 7 days. At the time of appearing for driving skill test, he has to produced all original documents for verification.

When do I get my Driver License after attending test ?
If the applicant passed the Driver License Test, DL will be issued on that same day after taking photographs.

How do I get a Heavy vehicle license for Driving Commercial vehicles ?
** Should have completed 20 years of age for apply for driving Transport Vehicles or Heavy vehicle with 1year experience in LMV. Should have obtained Badge or endorsement for driving commercial vehicle.
** Apply for LLR on online with certificate issued by recognised driving school in form 14.
** The documents to be submitted at the time of test with Fees Rs.1100.
