Drugs Information center:
The Tamil Nadu Pharmacy Council established its Drug Information Centre (DIC) in November, 2007 in collaboration with the Director of Drugs Control, Tamil Nadu. The aim of the DIC is to provide unbiased drug information to healthcare professionals and public.
Drug Information Services:
The centre provides in-depth, unbiased source of crucial drug information to meet the needs of the practicing physicians, pharmacists and other health care professionals in following areas:
Drug Therapy of Choice – Current and alternative therapy recommendations based on literature analysis and patient data are provided.
Adverse Drug Reactions:
Suspected adverse drug reactions are assessed. Specific information regarding predisposing factors, relationship to dose or duration of therapy, incidence, clinical manifestations, and management are provided.
Evaluation of Drug Reactions:
The significance of a drug-drug, drug-food, drug-disease or drug laboratory test interaction is evaluated.
Drug Information Centre:
Work towards in promotion of safe, effective, rational and economic use of drugs by the health professionals and patients.
Drug Interactions:
Drug interactions may happen when two or more drugs are administered to a patient at the same time. An interaction is said to occur when the effects of one drug are changed by the presence of another drug.
Drug drug interaction (DDI) may occur either invitro (outside living body) or in vivo (inside a living body). Those that occur outside the body are generally referred to as “ incompatibilities”.
Example: – The interactions manifested when one drug is mixed in an IV fluid – when noradrenaline is mixed with isotonic saline, it becomes degraded at that particular pH. To overcome this problem, vitamin C must be added to ensure stability of noradrenaline.
