Thrissur is known as the cultural capital of Kerala and it is the administrative capital of Thrissur district. The Thrissur Municipal Corporation manages the distribution of electricity to the residents and Commercial establishments through Thrissur Corporation Electricity Department(TCED).The distribution network covers about 12.65 Sq.km. Thrissur Corporation Electricity Department(TCED) is one of the ten electricity distribution licensees in the state of Kerala.
The present TCED has 40000 plus consumer strength and the annual energy sale is about 162 MU. TCED has its own 110KV and 33 KV substations with 575 distribution transformers. Thrissur Corporation is unique in that it is the only local body engaged in the distribution of electricity aims to become an ideal licensee in India.
With the support and consent of Govt. of Kerala, Energy Management Centre, ANERT and KSERC, TCED has been implementing various programs and projects for efficient use of energy and conservation. TCED has already commissioned 500kw solar power plants and is planning for more plants in the near future.In addition, TCED will soon be having its own small hydel projects as four projects are already allotted to TCED by the Kerala State Govt.
