Renewal of Driving Licence :

Step 1 :
Purchase the ‘Renewal of Driving Licence’ File from the R&LA Sale OR Download this File/requisite Forms from this website as per the Checklist. “Click Here” to view the Checklist and download the requisite Forms

Step 2 :
Read the instructions mentioned in the File/Forms carefully.

Step 3 :
Complete and attach all the required Documents/Forms as per the CheckList.

Step 4 :
** Submit your complete file & fees at the concerned DL counter at the R&LA office and collect your Fee Receipt.

Step 5 :
Your Driving License (DL) will be dispatched to you via Speed Post, and will be delivered at your given address.

Note :
This is a downloaded File. In order to deposit the same, the applicant has to collect the ‘File receipt’ from the R&LA File Sale Counter after depositing the concerned File Fee. Please bring the original documents whose attested photocopies have been attached with the file.

1. FORM NO.9 PDF (Application for renewal of driving licence).
2. FORM NO.1 & 1-A PDF (Application-cum-Declaration as to physical fitness & Medical Certificate for obtaining Learner’s/ Driving Licence).
3. Driving Licence (In original).
4. FORM NO.4 PDF (If applicable, in case of change of address) (Application for licence to drive a motor vehicle)
5. Copy of Address proof (Self attested, for details, “Click Here” ).
6. Affidavit PDF for Address Proof (If applicable).

Fees :
** Renewal of DL 250/-
** Renewal of Driving License after expiry of grace period of Driving License 250/- + 50/- (Fine per year)
** Renewal of Driving License after 5 years after expiry of grace period of Driving License 300/- + 50/- (Fine per year)

How long is the Driving License valid :
License to drive a Non-Transport Vehicle is valid for 20 years from the date of issue or until the holder attains the age of 50 years, whichever is earlier. After that, the License is renewed every 5 years.
Transport Vehicle License is valid for a period of 3 years from the date of issue or renewal.

Why do you need a Driving License ?
As per Motor Vehicle Act 1988, a valid Driving License is necessary to drive any motor vehicle on public roads.

Where do you get it ?
At the Office of Registering & Licensing Authority, Sector-17 U.T., Chandigarh.

When do you get it ?
After completion of 16 years of age, for driving motor cycles with engine capacity not exceeding 50cc with the consent of the parent / guardian. After completion of 18 years of age, motor cycles with engine capacity exceeding 50cc and light motor vehicle. After completion of 20 years of age, for an endorsement to drive transport vehicles.
