Issuance of International Driving License :

An International Driver’s License is an official document issued by a licensing authority in India to an Indian National authorizing the person specified therein to drive any category of motor vehicles as specified in the areas or territories of countries other than India.

Necessity for International Driver’s License :
Any Indian citizen who requires to drive in foreign countries needs an International Driving License.

Eligibility :
1. You must hold a valid Driving License.
2. You must have a valid Passport.

Where to Apply :
Application for the International Driver’s License can be made to the licensing authority having jurisdiction over the area in which the holder of the Driver’s License ordinarily resides or carries on business, along with relevant documents.

Documents Required :
1. Form 4A (Application Form for International Driving Permit) available in the office/download from website.
2. Form 1A (Medical Certificate) available in the office/download from website.
3. Valid Driving License.
4. Valid proof of Indian National.
5. Valid Passport.
6. Valid Visa (where applicable).
7. Three copies of recent passport size photographs.

Enclosure :
5. Driving License (attested copy)
6. Residence Proof (attested copy)
7. Age Proof (attested copy)
8. Citizenship Proof (attested copy)
Remember to bring the originals of the documents whose attested copies are enclosed.

Fee
` 500/- .
(Including charge for Issue of International Driving Permit : ` 500/-)

Procedure :
You will have to visit with all the required documents to the District Transport Office in your region. After you submit all your documents along with the specified fees, the officials will verify your particulars and if you are clear on all your documents then you will be issued an International Driver’s License.

Expected Time for Disposal :
You will be given a date on which you need to go to District Transport Office to collect your International Driver’s License. It is generally issued to the applicant within 7 working days.
The maximum time for disposal is of 30 working days.

Validity :
The validity of this license will be not more than one year from the date of issue, as the case may be, or till the validity of the driving license whichever is earlier.

Renewal :
An International Driver’s License cannot be renewed.

About Us :
In order to achieve the objectives, the transport department is determined to make available transparent and sensitive administrative services with public cooperation in connection with the works/jobs like registration of vehicles, tax collection, pollution control and issuance of Drivers/Conductor’s licenses, safe movement of the vehicles and measures of checking accidents, etc. and for this the department and its each officer/officials shall perform the following tasks/duties

** Every application must be expeditiously dealt with and executed within the stipulated time-limit and during the process every citizen/applicant shall be dealt in a friendly manner.

** In all circumstances sincerity and dedication to work shall be maintained.
** Every applicant/citizen shall be treated equal/alike and there must be transparency in working pattern.

  1. I have a Jammu and Kashmir license but I am a resident of Bihar. I want to apply for an international driving license. Is it possible to apply from my regional transport office?
    Please let me know the complete procedure.
