Case Status of Supreme Court of India

It is an information system designed to provide information on pending and disposed cases of Supreme Court of India on Internet for advocates, litigant public and judges of lower courts. The required information is derived from the large databases created in the Supreme Court of India by NIC and maintained by the Registry of Supreme Court.

It gives the latest information of a case with respect to the status of the case, which could stand as :

Supreme Court of India :
Supreme Court of India came into existence on 26th January, 1950 and is located on Tilak Marg, New Delhi. The Supreme Court of India functioned from the Parliament House till it moved to the present building. It has a 27.6 metre high dome and a spacious colonnaded verandah. For a peek inside, you’ll have to obtain a visitor’s pass from the front office.

On the 28th of January, 1950, two days after India became a Sovereign Democratic Republic, the Supreme Court came into being. The inauguration took place in the Chamber of Princes in the Parliament building which also housed India’s Parliament, consisting of the Council of States and the House of the People

Functions of Supreme Court of India

The Supreme Court of India is the highest court in the country and has a wide range of functions.

These include:
** Original jurisdiction: The Supreme Court has original jurisdiction in a limited number of cases, such as disputes between states, disputes between the Union and a state, and disputes between the Union and a citizen.
** Appellate jurisdiction: The Supreme Court has appellate jurisdiction over cases decided by the High Courts. This means that the Supreme Court can hear appeals from the High Courts on both civil and criminal matters.
** Advisory jurisdiction: The President of India can refer any matter to the Supreme Court for its opinion. This is known as the advisory jurisdiction of the Supreme Court.
** Writ jurisdiction: The Supreme Court has the power to issue writs, which are orders that can be used to protect the fundamental rights of citizens. The writs that the Supreme Court can issue include habeas corpus, mandamus, quo warranto, certiorari, and prohibition.
** Power to punish for contempt of court: The Supreme Court has the power to punish people for contempt of court. This means that the Supreme Court can punish people who disobey its orders or who disrupt its proceedings.
** Power to regulate its own procedure: The Supreme Court has the power to regulate its own procedure. This means that the Supreme Court can decide how it will hear cases and make decisions.
