Family Relief Scheme

** The “Family Relief” scheme envisages payment of monthly monetary relief to the dependants of employees who die in harness while in service due to natural reasons or due to accidents arising out of and in the course of employment.

** The scheme is optional in lieu of employment and the option for family
relief in lieu of employment once exercised shall be final and irrevocable.
** The scheme also covers Contract / INDCOSERVE Employees provided, the
death is due to Industrial Accident.
** The scheme shall be implemented in respect of deaths occurring on or after 01-10-1989.
** those eligible for family relief are as under :

Eligible beneficiary Basic eligible criteria :
** Spouse of deceased -Spouse will get the amount upto the age of 58
** In case spouse predeceases, the eldest son or eldest unmarried daughter
1. In case of eldest son – will get the amount upto the age of 28 or till employment, which ever is earlier.
2. In case of unmarried daughter – will get the amount upto the age of 28 or till getting married, which ever is earlier.

NLC employees :
Death on account of natural cause / Industrial accidents Contract / Indcoserve employees – Death on account of Industrial accidents only

Procedure For Claiming Of Family Relief :
** The spouse of the deceased employee / contract / Indcoserve workmen has to
approach the H.R Department concerned where the employee last worked
before his demise and submit a requisition claiming family relief in lieu of
employment.
** After submission of the claim, the individual has to fill in an application in the
prescribed format and submit necessary documents as sought by the concerned
H.R Department..
** After submission of the necessary documents, the individual will be advised to
present before a committee for briefing and scrutiny of documents.
** In order to expedite the family relief claims, committees have been constituted
with specific functional areas viz. Mines, Thermal, Other Offices, Regional
Offices and NTPL.
** Subsequent to the briefing and scrutiny of the documents by the above
respective committees, the report of the committee will be forwarded to
Employee Services Wing for verification.

** On receipt of the committee report, the Employee Services Wing will advise the claimant to report for document verification on a specific date, which will be done by a committee constituted under the Chairmanship of Chief of Employee Services wing.

** The required verification done in Employee Services Wing are as under :
a. Self Declaration by the claimant & Statement from an serving employee of the Corporation
b. Original legal heir certificate is obtained

c. Age Verification :
i. In case of claimant being educated – Verification with school authorities with regard to DOB is carried out. In case the DOB is found to be bogus, the age is arrived as in (ii) below.

ii. In case of claimant being uneducated – the age which ever is higher in the documents viz. Legal heir certificate / Ration Card / Voter ID card / Service Book / Service Card / Medical Identification Book of NLC / Self Declaration is taken into account.
